For the live event The Beat we have been asked to take photographs of the in house bands that have joined together and are studying music tech. The band that I was assigned to was Subway Drummer, it contains 4 men and 1 woman which I thought would be quite interesting considering the woman is also the lead singer. I am really pleased with the photographs as we didn't have a plan as such. I chose to do some of the poses from my research.

Live event photography
I am researching into live event photography e.g tv programs, festivals and live music.
When I take my stills at the live event I want a wide range of shots, I want them to be interesting aswell and creative. Some examples of what sort of photos I would like to take;
Slow exposure is a great way to encorporate all the lights, the feeling of the crowd and to create a surreal world as such. I think this would work great at The Beat because it could really capture movement of the band/artist too.
Shadows are always interesting and really effective. Although as a promotional photo for the band it's not great but to show the

Band photography research
For the live event we have been put into pairs to work together in promoting the band. We have to shoot the band, light them, create a logo and keep in communication with them throughout the whole event. I have been put in a pair with Rebecca and are working with Band 4, they have not yet come up with a name. I am going to also get all their numbers and details so I can keep in contact with them if needs be. Some examples of simple studio shoots with bands and good lighting are here;
Every member of this band can be seen, it is off centre and everybody is lit well.
Because the band is full of 6 people it's a lot to fit into a small studio space and to shoot without getting unwanted background in. I am going to direct the band members to stand very close together as to accomodate the whole band.
I like this idea, of having the lead member closer to the camera and having the other members in the background. You can still clearly see them but it lets you know who is the leader, it also makes your eyes wander across the photo.
This photo is a really simple but effect way to stand the band members, the lead singer is wearing white so he stands out more aswell. You can fit all members in without drawing attention to the fact you can only see the heads of the two men at the back. The lighting is also really effective using a halo/hair light to create shadows. I am going to try and use this form of arranging the members for my shoot as it utilises all space.
This shot is a really interesting way to liven up a photoshoot, it shows all the members faces and you can identify who is in the shot, making it a good promotional photograph. I want to try and use this for the photoshoot I have to do with Band 4.
