Final project

I went out on Monday 13th of May and shot some derelict buildings in Ipswich. I mainly focussed around the Marina and Ipswich town centre.

After I had done this, I came back to college and processed the film. Once that was done it was time to print my negatives.I started this off by doing a test strip, finding which exposure I would need. I decided 5 seconds was best as the rest was a bit dark.

Once I had found the exposure I wanted to use I made a contact sheet to see how all the negatives looked.

Once I had decided to do all my prints at 5 seconds and sorted out the focus etc I began to print.

Some of my prints turned out a bit dark as they were dark photos anyway, so for these I had to do about 3-4 seconds instead. For example
As you can see this photo turned out too dark, you can't see the detail.

The rest of my photos i'm really proud of, they turned out exactly how I imagined.

(this image also turned out too dark)

Final project

For my final project I want to photograph in black and white film. I am going to photograph derelict and unloved buildings in Ipswich. There is a church that was recently burnt down and I want to take some photos of that. Ipswich has had a lot done to the waterfont in recent years but there is a massive contrast between some of the listed buildings there and ones such as The Mill. I love to see old and new together, I will try to photograph the listed buildings down on the Waterfront. I will take about 15-20 photos and chose my favorites out of that to use in my portfolio as a collection. I have always appreciated an old building, as my old used to be listed and was 500+ years old. I think these buildings that look a bit shabby around Ipswich can be turned into art by just simply taking a photo of it in black and white.

Stop motion

For our next project we have been teamed up with the music video students and are going to collaborate to make a stop motion music video, this is very exciting! I am looking forward to experimenting with stop motion as I did this in animation and really enjoyed it. I have looked at some videos on youtube to give me some inspiration and for some research, my favourite ones are

Other ideas

I would like to do something in a stop motion form of something like this;

I think this is a really great way to incorporate the lyrics into the song without doing lip syncing throughout the whole song. I was thinking of having important and significant words through the song moving alone someones body.

Live event stills

For the live event I photographed on the Wednesday night, I am quite happy with some of the shots even though the IOS is high.

Wednesday night band

For the live event The Beat we have been asked to take photographs of the in house bands that have joined together and are studying music tech. The band that I was assigned to was Subway Drummer, it contains 4 men and 1 woman which I thought would be quite interesting considering the woman is also the lead singer. I am really pleased with the photographs as we didn't have a plan as such. I chose to do some of the poses from my research.

These are my photos

Live event photography

I am researching into live event photography e.g tv programs, festivals and live music.
When I take my stills at the live event I want a wide range of shots, I want them to be interesting aswell and creative. Some examples of what sort of photos I would like to take;

Slow exposure is a great way to encorporate all the lights, the feeling of the crowd and to create a surreal world as such. I think this would work great at The Beat because it could really capture movement of the band/artist too.

Shadows are always interesting and really effective. Although as a promotional photo for the band it's not great but to show the

Band photography research

For the live event we have been put into pairs to work together in promoting the band. We have to shoot the band, light them, create a logo and keep in communication with them throughout the whole event. I have been put in a pair with Rebecca and are working with Band 4, they have not yet come up with a name. I am going to also get all their numbers and details so I can keep in contact with them if needs be. Some examples of simple studio shoots with bands and good lighting are here;
Every member of this band can be seen, it is off centre and everybody is lit well.

Because the band is full of 6 people it's a lot to fit into a small studio space and to shoot without getting unwanted background in. I am going to direct the band members to stand very close together as to accomodate the whole band.

I like this idea, of having the lead member closer to the camera and having the other members in the background. You can still clearly see them but it lets you know who is the leader, it also makes your eyes wander across the photo.
This photo is a really simple but effect way to stand the band members, the lead singer is wearing white so he stands out more aswell. You can fit all members in without drawing attention to the fact you can only see the heads of the two men at the back. The lighting is also really effective using a halo/hair light to create shadows. I am going to try and use this form of arranging the members for my shoot as it utilises all space.

This shot is a really interesting way to liven up a photoshoot, it shows all the members faces and you can identify who is in the shot, making it a good promotional photograph. I want to try and use this for the photoshoot I have to do with Band 4.
